I Am A Move Of God
Have you been praying and believing for revival? If you’re like me the dream of revival has captured your heart and you would love to see a mighty move of God. Here’s the thing that has caught my attention recently, it’s simple, but I think it’s quite profound…
Many of the revivals we look back on throughout history all started with a notable person.
That person wasn’t necessarily notable prior to the revivals kicking off, but by the end of their lifetimes, God had moved in incredible ways. I think of the great revivalists like John Wesley and Charles Finney. I think of modern day heroes like Heidi Baker, and Bill Johnson. These people prayed like us that God would move and He did! So what do they have that we don’t? Why has revival followed their life and not ours?
One of my all time revival heroes is William Booth, co-founder of The Salvation Army. Some say that by the time of his death he had led more people to Jesus than any other soul in history before him. He had this interesting quote that I think shines a light on how revival kicks off,
“I’m not waiting for a move of God, I am a move of God!”
Smith Wigglesworth, another great revivalist who saw crazy miracles and revival said something similar,
“If the Spirit does not move me, I move the Spirit.”
At first these quotes may sound arrogant and they definitely caused me to stop and have a think. But here’s what I’m reminded of. The Scriptures clearly tell us that we have everything we need for life and godliness in Christ Jesus. The Scriptures tell us that we are complete in Christ, and that God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.
God has done what He needs for revival to sweep across the planet. He has the desire, and He has equipped us to make it so! Therefore, it is now our turn to step out in obedience and faith to partner with Him.
If you’re like me you have sat through countless teachings on faith, evangelism, discipleship, and so forth. But how many of us have put into practice everything we have been taught? I don’t think I would be incorrect in saying that we have more teaching than we know what to do with it.
What is required now, is that we actually do what we have been taught.
Can you imagine what would happen if you put into practice all the teaching you had about evangelism and discipleship and loving your neighbour? What if we actually put into practice all the lessons on stepping out in faith and believing for the impossible? Or if our thought life actually resembled what we have been taught about our identity in Christ? What if we prayed, fasted, and lived out all the spiritual disciplines we have been taught? What if we put into practice all the messages we’ve heard about overcoming fear, loving our neighbours unconditionally, standing up for justice, caring for the oppressed and being a living sacrifice?
Seriously, stop now and have a think… How would your life look different at work or in your neighbourhood if you did what you have been taught?
This revelation has challenged me. I know I have work to do in implementing everything I have been taught. But I realise the time for simply waiting for a move is over. The time for action is now. God has done what He needs to do. It’s now our turn to partner with Him, and step out in faith and obey.
Let us not get caught waiting for a move of God, let us say with confidence like William Booth did,
“I am a move of God!”
